This Fractured Land
Discover Bucks Museum
This Fractured Land, held at Discover Bucks Museum in 2024, was the collective’s first exhibition together. It explored England’s changing landscape from geological, historical, social and mythological perspectives.
Artists Lian Chan, Ellie Laycock, Jane Peacock, Ellie Reid and Caroline Thomson created new work in response to the museum’s collections and to the history and imaginative power of the land. Through painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture and film, they examined storytelling, the ancient past, conflict over land, the uncertain future of climate change and the emotional force of landscape.
Their work was shown alongside collection objects that had inspired it, including paintings by war artist John Nash, items connected with crime and punishment, long-buried gold coins, and rocks and fossils from the deep past.
The exhibition went on to win Best Exhibition at the inaugural Bucks Culture Awards.
